virtual backgrounds for zoom

It’s March 2020 and the world has changed. The situation is pretty surreal and many of us are now working from home, some of us for the first time. It’s not all doom and gloom though. There are some advantages! For one, you can hang out in your pyjamas all day and you don’t need to brush your hair! Also, no need to spend hours commuting and you can sleep in. Hooray!!

But, there is an issue! That is, the online meeting (cue dramatic music). Suddenly you’ve got to get to grips with some new apps and technology. You’ve had to have a crash course in setting up your webcam and now everyone has a front seat view into your personal space. You might find that your colleagues and your clients are more interested in sticky-beaking your lounge room/kitchen/what’s on your shelf rather than the things you have to say.

Before the meeting you find yourself spending time working out the best spot, with the least distracting background in your house and bribing your pet/partner/child to stay out of the background. After all, you still need to look professional even if you’re working at the kitchen table. It’s a minefield!

Fear not! There is a solution, and I’m here to save the day for you.  Online meeting apps such as Zoom offer the opportunity to use a virtual background. So, you can upload a picture that covers up your inappropriate background and better yet, it can be designed to fit your brand including things like your logo and any other images that you use to represent your brand.

Here are a few things to bear in mind:

  1. Choose your virtual image in advance and get it set up at the correct settings for the app you’re using

  2. Have at least a couple of images to choose from so you can make sure it works with your outfit

  3. Lighting is important when you’re in an online meeting – so still think about where you’re going to sit with the best light

  4. Make sure your camera is clean – a smudge on your device’s camera will make you look smudged!

  5. Think about what you’re going to wear – make sure the colours are going to work with your branded virtual background

At Blade Creative we can design branded zoom backgrounds so you can be more professional in your online meetings. Get in touch to find out more.
